Poppleton lies 4 miles to the northwest of the historic city of York. The two old village cores of Nether and Upper Poppleton have coalesced to form one community with two Parish Councils. The Neighbourhood Plan aims to build on the principles of the Village Design Statement.
The Policies of the Poppleton Neighbourhood Plan will be extremely important in deciding planning applications that affect the villages and parish areas. The Policies are aimed at managing future growth in the parish, especially new housing and business developments. They will ensure that the historic character and identity of the village is preserved and that the green spaces that separate the villages from York maintained.
Poppleton is surrounded by Grade 1 agricultural land, and contained within the village are conservation areas of historic and environmental importance and many treasured green spaces.
The Neighbourhood Plan gives all residents of the parishes the opportunity to influence how development will affect the area in the years to come in terms of the development of housing, business and valued green spaces. It will determine how vital amenities will cope with potential increase in population and how the facilities and transport links of the villages can be sustained.
The work on the plan is complete and all the documentation has been submitted to the City of York Planning department on 22 November 2016. The Council will consult for a further period of 6 weeks before appointing an examiner.
